Explore The Boundary Between Worlds

Nestled on a quiet back road in Pikesville, Maryland is a 160+ year old Chapel surrounded by headstones that has now been converted into an oddities & curiosities museum for all things strange.

The original chapel was built in 1786 and dedicated by Richard Owings, son of Joshua Owings. Richard was the first native American Methodist preacher in the area and was known for his extensive missionary work along the Allegheny Mountains and surrounding regions. The current Greek Revival structure was built in 1862 using remnants of material from the previous chapel and a large portion of the yard would be designated burial grounds for those that would come to pass.

During interior renovations, staff started experiencing unusual things while working. Cold gusts of air rushing into the room, seeing shadow figures walk past thresholds, hearing voices and footsteps, phantom smells and more.

Soon after these bizarre encounters, the owners would reach out to confirm some of these experiences with the help of Charm City Paranormal, who were able to capture extensive paranormal activity during their stay. What was originally intended to be a museum has now evolved into something anyone can experience. Whether it be public or private investigations, museum walkthroughs, events or overnight stays, Sanctuary of the Strange offers something unique for everyone!
